As production begins, the cast of THE EQUALIZER is filling out. First, word came that Denzel Washington was on board for the title role, now we hear that Oscar winner Melissa Leo has signed on.
The original series starred Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, a former government agent that helped those in need. He ran an ad in the want ads reading “GOT A PROBLEM? ODDS AGAINST YOU? CALL THE EQUALIZER! ” Woodward won a Golden Globe in 1987. In the same year, the show picked up an Edgar for the episode The Cup. The Equalizer aired on CBS from 1985 to 1989.
In the movie, McCall (Denzel Washington) is living a quiet life while working at a Home Depot when one of his acts of kindness towards a prostitute (Chloë Grace Moretz) gets him embroiled with the Russian mob. Melissa Leo will play McCall’s former supervisor who now provides him with information.
Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY, SHOOTER) is on board to direct.
