New Anoka based publisher 40 Press kicked things off at Once Upon A Crime. Marketing director E Kelly Keady moderated a panel that included 40 Press authors Kathleen Vellenga (Strangers in Our Midst), Richard A. Thompson (Lowertown), Pat Dennis (Murder By Chance), and David Housewright (The Holland Taylor Trilogy).
When asked about their business philosophy, publisher Joe Riley offered the following:
The trio uses a new publishing business model-
Take chances on new talent to evolve over several years to recoup their investment.
Print back-lists from bestselling authors from seeing the light of day when a demand still exists for these classics
As a small independent publisher with reduced overhead and better margins, they can “take chances on emerging talent and bringing the classics back into print.”
