Back in Feb, I mentioned that A&E had ordered a season of a new crime series called Sugarloaf. Since then, the name changed to THE GLADES and it is is slated to debut in July.

THE GLADES™ is a character-driven police procedural set in the fictional town of Palm Glade, Florida starring Australian actor Matt Passmore. Matt plays Jim Longworth, an attractive, brilliant, yet hard to get along with homicide detective from Chicago who is forced into exile after being wrongfully accused of sleeping with his former captain’s wife. Longworth relocates to the sleepy, middle-of-nowhere town of Palm Glade, Florida, where the sunshine and golf are plentiful and crime is seemingly at a minimum. Yet life in this sleepy town is not as beautiful as it may seem.

Longworth was looking for a change of pace from his old life with the Chicago PD, and a change is definitely what he found. But this town outside the Florida Everglades isn’t quite as idyllic as he thought, as he finds people keep turning up murdered. One week it’s a body in a swamp, the next it’s a corpse inside a plane at a nature preserve, then it’s a man found dead at a bikini contest. Each case pulls Longworth off the golf course and reluctantly into his element as one of the sharpest homicide detectives in the field.

Between practicing his golf game, trying to get a date with Callie (Kiele Sanchez) – a quick-witted, beautiful medical student with a 12 year-old son and a husband in prison – avoiding wearing his state trooper uniform, and trying to solve a slew of homicide cases, Longworth’s transition to his new surroundings is a bit more difficult than he expected. If he wasn’t such a brilliant detective, maybe people would actually leave him alone and give him more time for leisure. In the meantime, he is realizing the skies in his new town are always sunny…with a chance of homicide.
