ABC is looking to bring the world of Val McDermid‘s Tony Hill to the U.S. Deadline is reporting that a U.S. version is being developed with A.M. Homes (THE L WORD) writing and joining Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman (DETROIT 1-8-7), Todd Lieberman (DETROIT 1-8-7), Laurie Zaks (CASTLE) and Sandra Jobling (exec producer for the highly successful British version) on the production side. All have solid track records, but I am especially pleased to see the folks behind the under-rated DETROIT 1-8-7 on board. In addition to Mandeville, ABC Studios and Endemol Studios are on board.
While Hill remains front and center, it sounds like some of the other characters will be different:
Wire in the Blood is described as a unique character-driven procedural which exposes the gaps between good and evil, our public and private selves and the psychological limits of human behavior. When detective Elizabeth Chase struggles to evade the succession of women in New York City who have turned up dead, she recruits the help of unconventional clinical psychologist Dr. Tony Hill, who has a talent for catching killers before they are able to strike again. Dr. Hill analyzes both victim and killer, demonstrating empathy for both sides.

The British version starred Robson Green as Dr. Tony Hill and ran from 2002 to 2008. Hill, along with Carol Jordan, appears in eight of Val McDermid’s novels, WIRE IN THE BLOOD being the second one.
