Another crime fiction hero has a shot at getting to the small screen.
Deadline is reporting that A&E has given the go to a pilot for LONGMIRE, based on Craig Johnson’s Walt Longmire novels, as long as an acceptable cast is found. So this is for a pilot only, meaning the cable network could still pass on it as a series if the pilot does not work for them. An example of this would be HBO’s recent passing on ALL SIGNS OF DEATH, a pilot based on a novel by Charlie Huston.
The folks behind the planned series also produce THE CLOSER. Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny have worked together as producers and writers for the hit TNT series and also put together TRUST ME, a TNT series that starred Eric McCormack and lasted just one season.
Johnson has written six novels that feature Wyoming-based Sheriff Walt Longmire.
In addition to LONGMIRE, A&E also ordered a pilot, with the same conditions, for BIG MIKE, a series featuring a “plus-sized” cop in the San Diego police department.
