Ok, this is not really crime-related but I have to talk about my favorite superhero!

Variety is reporting that Aaron Eckhart (Thank You for Smoking, The Black Dahlia)will be playing Gotham D.A. Harvey Dent A.K.A. Two Face.

Eckhart joins Heath Ledger in battling Batman in the forthcoming The Dark Knight. Ledger will be playing The Joker. The Dark Knight is the second Batman movie from Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Prestige).

Harvey Dent was the driven District Attorney of Gotham City before a mobster threw acid on his face. Batman deflected some of it, resulting in only half of Dent’s face being hit by the acid. The severe scarring shattered the psyche of Dent, turning him into an unpredictable psychopath that often makes choices by flipping a two-headed coin, one side of which has been slashed.

While I don’t know this for certain, it sounds as though much of The Dark Knight will see Dent still on the side of good, with his injury likely occuring later in the movie.

Christian Bale will be reprising his role as The Batman, along with Michael Caine as his loyal butler Alfred and Gary Oldman playing Lt. Jim Gordon.

Shooting should be starting anytime now, with it’s release scheduled for July 18th of 2008.

July of 2008……..I can’t wait!

P.S. While it has not been officially announced, the current rumors are that Maggie Gyllenhaal (Secretary, Mona Lisa Smile) will be filling Katie Holmes’ shoes as Rachel Dawses.
