Well, now I have heard it all. Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller are making a movie together. Not just a movie, they are playing the Hardy Boys as men.
Shawn Levey (The Pink Panther, Night at the Museum) will be directing. I am still trying to wipe the Panther remake from my mind.
The idea of the story is that the brothers have been estranged for years, but now must come together to solve the biggest mystery of their lives.
The Hardy Men is being described as an action/comedy. Anyone else getting a bad feeling about this?
Simon Kinberg will handling script duties. Kinberg has previously written Mr. & Mrs. Smith, XXX 2: The Next Level and X-Men: The Last Stand.
The plan is to start production in 2008.
Add on:
As I understand it, the film will be based more on the 70’s television series, which starred Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy, than the actual books.
Those two won't fit together for a consistent tone. Cruise is never funny and Stiller is funny-quirky or funny-neurotic. Yikes.
Y'know, as cheesy as the '70s show with Shaun Cassidy and that other guy was, it will seem like a masterpiece compared to this movie.
Parker Stevenson.
And yes, EWWWWWWWWWWW.
Patrick, this may sadden you even more:
I spoke with a fellow this afternoon that told me it is his understanding that the film will be more of a takeoff of the television series, rather than the original books.
This is even more disturbing than the planned Nancy Drew movie starring Emma Roberts.
Somewhere Mr Strathmeyer is rolling over in his grave.
I'm with Cornelia on this one. After 19 years of marriage, one of the most dependable, reliable, rock-solid, never-changing remarks my lovely and talened wife can be depended upon to make at any time and under any circumstances is, and with any company, very roughly translated, "Parker Stevenson;MMMhhhMMMuuhhh…",
But wasn't somebody (Shaun methinks) BLOND here? Or am I still mourning Anna Nicole? And, please, no bottle jokes here…
This is a really bad idea.
Cruise should just quit makingmovies now rather than wait for the embarassment to follow.
And why oh why is Ben Stiller usually so awful in movies??!!! And yet they keep giving him money to do these stupid stupid films…
And why do they keep giving money to Spiller to make stupid films? I think, Jon – you answered your question. Stupid is the operative word here.
