Bryan’s Gift buying guide

There’s still a couple more days before Christmas. If you’re still hunting for that crime lover in your family, here’s some suggestions!

The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau

In the rise of young adult fiction, few people will shine as brightly as Joelle Charbonneau. The Testing is the first in a trilogy focusing on a young girl named Cia as she begins the testing procedure for university in a dystopian future. She soon learns that the testing is designed to find what she is made of down to her very core. Action, suspense, and a fantastic heroine make this a perfect book for anyone who’s been obsessed with the Hunger Games but is ready for a more challenging and interesting lead character. Plus, the sequel will be out just after Christmas so those who love The Testing won’t have to wait in suspense for the next installment!

Doctor Sleep by Stephen King

Thirty years after the horrors of the Overlook Hotel, Danny Torrence is still haunted by his gift and the actions of his murderous father. When he encounters another with the shining, he becomes her only protector from an ancient group known as “The True Knot,” who are bent on harvesting the girl to continue their seemingly immortal life. Packed with horror and spine-grabbing suspense, this is one of the best King novels in recent years and the perfect gift for the horror lover in your life

Green Lantern: NEW GUARDIANS Vols 1 & 2

While the rise of the New 52 from DC saw a host of great Lantern titles, none has shone as brightly for me as NEW GUARDIANS. Rings from every core suddenly descend on Green Lantern Kyle Rayner he is dragged into a battle of galactic proportions. Rayner must discover why all the corps are under attack while being attacked by individual corps members himself. Giving us a fantastic look inside each of the emotional corps while packing each page with action that leaps of the page, NEW GUARDIANS is a perfect buy for any comic lover.

An innocent man being sent to an asylum, alien abductions, medical experimentation, a serial killer, and so very much more, ASYLUM preys on your expectations of a normal horror story and twists them into something unexpected and brilliant. With an amazing cast and perfect storytelling, this is a fantastic buy. Though only 13 episodes long, I can guarantee you’ll be watching this series over and over again to catch details and clues you missed the first time you entered Briarcliff Mental Institution.

When a portable nuclear device goes missing, a group of retired intelligence agents must band together to help track down the bad guy and save the world. Sound familiar? Though it isn’t the most original plot in history, it is one of the most fun movies I have seen all year. Featuring a stellar cast including Anthony Hopkins, Bruce Willis, and Helen Mirren it is an absolute blast filled with quick quips and gunplay. If you want an Oscar nominee for best movie, keep walking. If you want a fantastically fun action movie, this is the one for you!

When Doctor Doom and a cadre of other Marvel baddies team up and destroy Silver Surfer’s cosmic board, powerful Lego bricks scatter the land. It’s up to SHIELD and a variety of Lego superheroes to stop their nefarious plan before they take over the world. Whether you want to fly across New York as Iron Man, smash everything in sight as Hulk, or scale a building as Spider Man, this is the perfect game for you. With exciting puzzles, hilarious plots, and over a hundred playable characters, this is a game that you’ll be playing for hours and hours as you explore every nook and cranny of this beautiful Lego universe.
