This week,  CrimeSpree and  Friday Reads Facebook page, are giving away copies of POISON GIRLS by Cheryl Reed

“A gritty story of a Chicago reporter’s infiltration of the city’s toughest neighborhoods during a heroin epidemic, written by a great new voice in crime fiction. Noir fans and readers of Laura Lippman will love Poison Girls.”
―Jamie Freveletti, internationally bestselling author of Dead Asleep

It’s the summer of 2008. Chicago’s Hyde Park Senator is running for the White House, the city is vying to host the 2016 Summer Olympics, and “Poison,” a lethal form of heroin, has killed more than 250 people, including dozens of suburban girls from prominent families.

Natalie Delaney, a crime reporter from the Chicago Times, discovers that daughters of Democratic powerhouses are the real targets. Obsessed with finding who is behind the killings, Natalie becomes entangled in an underworld where drugs, cops, gangs, politics, and privilege collide. Risking everything, this reporter becomes the story…

About The Author

I am an author and a journalist. Currently, I’m  working on a series of novels set in Chicago. My first novel, Poison Girls, landed in bookstores on September 12, 2017. The novel explores the intersection of drugs, wealth, politics and race when dozens of daughters from politically connected families die mysteriously from a strand of street heroin. My nonfiction book, Unveiled:The Hidden Lives of Nuns, explored the culture of the convent and why young, smart women  choose to give up money and men.  I’ve been a staff reporter and editor at a number of newspapers and magazines, including the Chicago Sun-Times. I have an MFA in fiction writing from Northwestern University.  I live with my husband, Greg Stricharchuk, a writer and a former editor for the Chicago Tribune, and our two lovely dogs, Graycie and Molly. For the past year, I have been living and teaching in Kyiv, Ukraine as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar. This fall, I’ll be joining the faculty at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communication as an assistant professor.
