Variety is reporting that Tom Cruise will star in the forthcoming WWII thriller by the director and writer of The Usual Suspects.

Last week, I mentioned that Director Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) was joining forces with Academy-award winning Screenwriter Chris McQuarrie for a new ensemble thriller set in WWII.

The two previously worked together on the 1995 classic The Usual Suspects.

Valkyrie is based on a real like plot by German military leaders to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Tom Cruise (Do I need to list what he has done??) will star as Count Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg, the colonel that led the “July plot.”

The current plan is to start shooting this summer. After this film, Singer will tackle the sequel to 2005’s Superman Returns with filming starting in March 0f 2008.
