THR has reported that Dennis Haysbert will play the hulking, brutal killer Manute in SIN CITY 2. A role that was previously played by the late Michael Clarke Duncan.
One of the key stories for the second film is A DAME TO KILL FOR. Manute is one of the characters of that story, as he is the henchman of the husband of Ava, the dame of the title.
Haybert first came to fame as Pedro Cerano in MAJOR LEAGUE and went on to star in THE UNIT. He most recently did voice work for WRECK-IT RALPH and can be heard (and sometimes seen) in All State commercials.
Directors Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez made the following statement to THR: “Manute is a character that has been part of the heart of the Sin City tales, and the late Michael Clarke Duncan beautifully established that role onscreen. We could not tell the story of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For without Manute and are thrilled to welcome Dennis Haysbert to the cast.”
Filming is currently underway on SIN CITY 2, with Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Jaime King and Rosario Dawson all having been confirmed as returning. Jamie Chung is replacing Devon Aoki as the blade-welding, rollerskating Miho.
