Scorsese’s The Departed snags five nominations including Picture, Director, Screenplay and supporting actor.
The Nominees for the 79th annual Academy Awards were announced this morning. The winners will announced on Sunday, Feb 25th.

Best Picture
Best Director: Martin Scorsese
Best Supporting Actor: Mark Wahlberg
Best Screenplay based on previously released material: William Monahan
Best Achievement in Editing: Thelma Schoonmaker
Children of Men:
Best Screenplay based on previously released material: Alfonso Cuarón, Timothy J. Sexton, David Arata, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby
Leonardo DiCaprio (Blood Diamond) will be facing off against likely winner Forest Whitaker (Last King of Scotland) for Best Actor.
Djimon Hounsou(Blood Diamond) was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
On a personal note, I would just like to say I am beyond thrilled to see Forest Whitaker get nominated. He is an amazing actor and it is great to see him getting the credit he so richly deserves.
