Dermot Mulroney is the new Jim Rockford. Mulroney is perhaps best known as Julia Roberts’ pal in MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING and has also appeared in ZODIAC and YOUNG GUNS. This will be his first regular television gig.

In early January, I posted news that NBC was looking to remake THE ROCKFORD FILES. I also voiced my unhappiness. And now that we have a lead actor?
Nothing has changed.
I have no problems with Mulroney as an actor. What I have seen has been ok, but the role of Jim Rockford is a special one and should not be revisited by anyone…that is my opinion. DM may prove me wrong, but Garner connected with that character in a way few do. I question whether or not Dermot will be able to overcome that.
James Garner ROCKED as Jim Rockford, an ex-con P.I. The series ran from 1974 to 1980 and was one of the best P.I. series ever.
According to THR, NBC is currently describing Jim as “slightly crumpled, wry humored, cynical, world weary, compassionate when it’s called for and easily irritated by morons.”
