A deadly bacteria code named The Andromeda Strain – is let loose after a
U.S. government satellite crash-lands in Utah. The bacteria unleashes a
lethal plague that wipes out an entire town leaving only two survivors – an
old man and an infant to provide clues to immunizing the population. As the
military tries to contain the spreading disaster, only a hastily assembled
team of scientists can hope to find a cure and stop the Andromeda Strain
from spreading.

Details have been released for the upcoming A & E miniseries The Andromeda Strain.

Benjamin Bratt will play Dr. Jeremy Stone. Stone is an epidemiologist and is heading up the team whose job it is to stop the strain from spreading.

Bratt was a regular on television’s Law & Order and E-Ring, and has appeared in Miss Congeniality (which got him a Blockbuster Entertainment award for Favorite supporting Actor), Traffic, The Woodsman and Catwoman (Which got one of his two Razzle nominations). I am pretty sure he would rather everyone forgot that last film.

Eric McCormack stars as Jack Nash, an investigative reporter for NNT who struggles to control his addictive personality.
Mr. McCormack is best known for the role of Will on the popular sitcom Will & Grace. A role that earned him an Emmy. For the more manly men out there, he was also a regular on Lonesome Dove: The Series from 1994 to 1995.

Rick Schroder stars as Major Bill Keene, MD, a virologist from the Army’s
Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease.

Rick(y)…Sorry, but he is still Ricky to me… was a huge child star of the series Silver Spoons. Don’t ask me why, but the show was huge.
In his adult life, he starred on NYPD Blue after Jimmy Smits left. He most recently was in season six of 24 and was on Strong Medicine.
He also recently made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed indie film Black Cloud.

Christa Miller stars as Dr. Angela Noyce, a surgeon, exobiologist and
specialist in Tropical and Exotic diseases.

Christa most recently played Jordan Sullivan on Scrubs, but was Kate O’Brien on The Drew Carey show from 1995 to 2002. She also did the voice of Cleopatra on the very cool Clone High U.S.A.
In the interests of full disclosure, I have to say I originally read that as exhibitionist instead of exobiologist.

Andre Braugher stars as General George Mancheck a US Army Biochemical
Research officer.

Braugher is likely best known for his Emmy Award-winning role of Det. Frank Pembleton on the Godly series Homicide: Life on the Streets. He also starred in Thief and recently finished filming the miniseries The Mist, based on the Stephen King novel.

Mikael Saloman is directing TAS. Saloman has twice been nominated for the Oscar as a cinematographer. He previously directed Hard Rain with Christian Slater and Morgan Freeman. On the plus side, he also directed the miniseries Salem’s Lot.

The screenplay has been written by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan. Mr. Schenkkan won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1992 for his play The Kentucky Cycle. This play also garnered him a Tony nomination.
Schenkkan adapted Graham Greene’s novel The Quiet American, for the big screen, as well as having written 2004’s Spartacus for the USA Network.

Filming started on July 3rd in Vancouver.
