As part of their deal with Stephen Cannell, Mill Creek has announced they will release season one of HUNTER, on DVD, on January 19th, 2010.

Often dubbed as television’s answer to Dirty Harry, former football star Fred Dryer lights up the screen as Los Angeles Police Department detective Rick Hunter, a renegade cop who breaks the rules and takes justice into his own hands. Partnered with the equally stunning and rebellious Sgt. Dee Dee “The Brass Cupcake” McCall (Stepfanie Kramer), the tough-minded duo bring an edgy attitude, extreme action, sly humor and sexual chemistry while cracking down on L.A.’s slimiest criminals.

Created by THE A-TEAM creator Frank Lupo and produced by the legendary Stephen J. Cannell, HUNTER combines hard-hitting action with mispaired-buddy comedy through all 19 hard-hitting season one episodes. This explosive debut season also features guest stars Dennis Franz, Brian Dennehy, Dennis Farina, Bo Svenson, Joanna Kerns, Ed O’Neill and more. HUNTER was one of the most popular television shows of the 1980s and one of the most successful cop shows of all time, enjoying a successful 7-season run on NBC.

HUNTER debuted, on NBC, on Sept 18th of 1984 and ran through 1991. There were a few telefilms and an attempt in 2003 to relaunch the series. I have very fond memories of Hunter. Whether or not the show will stand the test of time remains to be seen, but I am happy to hear I will have the opportunity to find out.

The set will have a retail price of $14.98.
