While Sports Night has NOTHING to do with crime, it is one of the best shows that most have not heard of. It is also one of my all-time favs so I feel the need to give it some face time.
Shout Factory has announced they will be releasing a 10th Anniversary edition of Sports Night on Sept 30th.
Here is the press release. I am embarrassed to say this has been sitting, unread, in my in box for close to a week.

Los Angeles, CA – In this world, the proverbial thrill of victory and agony of defeat aren’t always in front of the camera. The groundbreaking series Sports Night reveals the struggles and victories of a witty dream team from a fictional cable sports network who close ranks in daily battle against cranky network executives, unforeseen technical mishaps, unpredictable athletes and personal quagmires to put “Sports Night” on the air live every night.
A show-within-a-show, the genre-breaking Sports Night merged the respective television drama and comedy classification, and gave rise to a unique hybrid TV series that is infused with rich characters, snappy repartee, dramatic moments, and kinetic multi-single-camera scenes that stretched the visual possibilities of the conventional sitcom. The first pairing of the now-legendary creative team of Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme (West Wing, Studio 60), Sports Night boasts a pedigreed ensemble cast including Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Peter Krause (Dirty Sexy Money, Six Feet Under), Josh Charles (In Treatment), Robert Guillaume (Benson), Sabrina Lloyd (Numb3rs, Ed), Josh Malina (The West Wing) alongside recurring notable guest stars William H. Macy, Teri Polo, Brenda Strong and Ted McGinley, among others. This brilliant but short-lived Emmy®-winning show set the stage for an array of tongue-in-cheek send-ups of high-stress entertainment media industry themed shows seen on today’s television.
Marking 10 years after Sports Night’s initial premiere on network television, the multiple award-winning cast and creative team come together for the first time on DVD when Shout! Factory presents Sports Night: The Complete Series 10th Anniversary Edition DVD box set on September 30, 2008. Offering the first comprehensive Sports Night experience ever, the 8-DVD collector’s box set contains all 45 acclaimed episodes, a special 10th Anniversary book, and 2 full discs of exclusive bonus features that reveal the genesis, life and afterlife of the series with all-new interviews, behind-the-scenes featurettes, gag reels, deleted scenes, and commentaries featuring the principal cast and creative team. You don’t have to know sports to enjoy Sports Night. The collectable 10th Anniversary Edition of Sport Night: The Complete Series DVD box set is priced to own at $69.99.
From creator and executive producer Aaron Sorkin, executive produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Tony Krantz, Thomas Schlamme and Rob Scheidlinger, and produced by Imagine Television in association with Touchstone Television, Sports Night debuted on ABC on September 22, 1998 and received an extraordinary reception from television critics and fans alike. Brimming with wry wit and high-brow humor, Sports Night is not a program about sports. The show provides an all-access pass to the inner workings of a high pressure cable newsroom and sheds lights on those dedicated news anchors and crew who ultimately push personal conflicts aside to bring their audience the best sports program offered on television…sometimes against considerable personal odds.
Set primarily in the New York City studios, Sport Night is a uniquely behind-the-scene look at a cable sports news show of the same name that focuses on the professional and personal lives of the people who push and pull and do everything they can to make that evening’s show go on the air. It’s not always that easy. Josh Charles as Dan Raydell and Peter Krause as Casey McCall, two “Sports Night” anchormen in their early thirties lucky enough to have turned their lifelong passion – sports – into lucrative careers, Felicity Huffman as the quick witted, ball-busting producer Dana Whitaker, whose passion for sports is match-for-match as passionate as Dan and Casey’s, Robert Guillaume as the cable show’s executive producer, Sabrina Lloyd as a young twenty something associate producer and Joshua Malina as a brilliant, though somewhat nerdish associate producer Jeremy Goodwin.
