We have a ton of releases this week. You will notice I have included a couple non-crime titles: Tiny Toons finally come out on DVD and The Rolling Stones and Martin Scorsese offer up Shine A Light.

Classic British Thrillers “The Phantom Light, Red Ensign and The Upturned Glass” $24.98 (MPI Home Video).

The British Cinematograph Films Act of 1927 was passed to give motion pictures made in the U.K. an edge over Hollywood imports. These films, called “quota quickies,” provided on-the-job training for some of the biggest stars of the Golden Age of British Cinema. This single disc includes three fine pieces of vintage British cinema: “The Phantom Light,” a creepy “quickie” directed by Michael Powel; “Red Ensign,” an expose of corruption and sabotage in the British shipping industry, directed by Powel; and “The Upturned Glass,” a revenge thriller starring James Mason as a surgeon turned sleuth.

The contemporary retelling of the popular legend is back for a second series with more breathtaking archery incredible swordplay lots of humour fun and energy a smattering of brute force and the raw determination to right wrongs. The Sheriff also wants Robin Hood dead and with his devastating sister Davina sets about catching him once and for all. Shine a Light (2008) Dir.: Martin Scorsese; documentary about The Rolling Stones. Martin Scorsese and The Rolling Stones unite to bring audiences “Shine A Light”. Filmed at the Beacon Theatre in New York City in Autumn 2006, Scorsese assembled a team of cinematographers to capture the raw energy of the legendary band. There are special appearances by Christina Aguilera, Jack White and Buddy Guy, and four Rolling Stones performances not seen in theatres.
