You can tell, by the look of the releases, that it is the holiday season. Of the five notable titles, three are gift sets.

Chinatown: Special Collector’s Edition Dir: Roman Polanski; Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, John Huston, Extras: Chinatown: The Beginning and The End!, Chinatown: Filming, Chinatown: The Legacy, Chinatown: The Classic, Theatrical Trailer (Paramount)

What could I possibly say that has not been said? #19 on the American Film Institute’s top 100, #43 on the IMDB rankings, Chinatown is one of the greatest hardboiled of all time. Own it, watch, love it.

Former Once Upon A Crime owner Steve Stilwell will be bringing us his thoughts on this edition. Look for his review within the next week.

The Coen Brothers Gift Set Five-disc set with “Blood Simple,” “Raising Arizona,” “Millers Crossing,” “Barton Fink” and “Fargo,” $49.98. (MGM).

James Bond Ultimate Collector’s Set Forty-two disc set with all 21 James Bond films (each title has two discs: one for the film, one for bonus material such as documentaries, music videos, Interviews, more); $239.98. (MGM).

Previously, I talked about this set along with it’s U.K. counterpart.

The Two Jakes: Special Collector’s Edition Dir: Jack Nicholson; Jack Nicholson, Harvey Keitel, Meg Tilly, Madeleine Stowe, Eli Wallach. Extras: Jack on Jakes Featurette, Theatrical Trailer (Paramount)

A not too bad sequel whose biggest crime is that it is nowhere NEAR the level of the original film. Still, it ain’t good enough to not suck.

The X-Files — The Complete Collector’s Edition Sixty-one-disc set loaded with extras, $329.98. (Fox).
