I’ve spoken before of my love of this show and now that Season seven is out on DVD I really don’t need to pontificate once again on why I adore this TV series. Let’s just take it as fact that I’m a huge fan of the show and Mike Conners and Gail Fisher.
Season Seven is a strong one and Conners is all Mannix and has made the character his own. This season has a number of episodes set outside the city, including A Way To A Dusty Death which puts Mannix in a small town. I am always amazed at the 70s TV shows and how they show small towns, full of untrusting folks and a way of thinking that seems like it would be better suited to the deep south of the 20s. Was California really like that? I don’t know, but it makes for good TV. In Race Against Time (a two parter ) Mannix heads South of the border and becomes involved in a Latin American revolution. The season is a nice blend of big cases with starlets and famous people needing help to little cases that seem unimportant.
Another great season of thisshow with poor Mannix once again proving to be the television PI who took more of a pounding than anyone else. The wonderful thing is, Mannix keeps coming back for more, as I will keep coming back for more of the show.
This is truly great television and Thanks to Paramount for keeping such a tight schedule with releases. As a footnote, it should be noted that 16 of these episode were never run in syndication and this is the first time they’ve been available for viewing since they first aired.
