DVD Review: Marvel DVD Comic Book Collection: X-MEN Volume 5

Release date: May 4, 2010
Buena Vista Home Entertainment
MSRP: $23.99

I previously reviewed Volumes 3 and 4 of this series, and, unless you hate the final season of X-Men for some reason, I can’t see why you wouldn’t buy Volume 5 to round out your collection. The final season featured memorable appearances by Nightcrawler and Captain America, as well as a Victorian era episode delving into the origins of the immortal and insane Mr. Sinister.

The series ends fittingly with an episode where an ailing Professor X is aided by his old friend Magneto, but must leave Earth in order to recover fully. This is Xavier’s chance to instill in his pupils the confidence they need to carry on without him.

I found the animation on some episodes perhaps half a step lower in quality than previous seasons, but again it shouldn’t be enough to dissuade fans of the series.

Here’s a listing of Volume 5’s episodes by title:

63. The Phalanx Covenant (Part 1)
64. The Phalanx Covenant (Part 2)
65. A Deal with the Devil
66. No Mutant Is An Island
