I have just rewatched all seven seasons of this show. I’ve been a fan from the beginning and even bought the season of JAG with the two parter that kicked NCIS off. And while I have enjoyed every season I think Season 7 is a lot stronger for a couple reasons.

The story lines are focusing more on character and we have less shows that try to show off the ships and military aspects. We know they are handle Navy and Marine cases and it seems they no longer need to put episodes on a ship to prove it. I also much prefer Ziva to agent Todd. She seemed a bit to snarky and seemed insecure, maybe it was Sasha Alexander feeling a bit out of place in the role. Cote de Pablo as Ziva David really seems right at home in her role and with each season it is a better fit. I buy into her being this person. The other characters have also matured. Tony still acts a bit the goof ball, but also shows his skills as an investigator. McGee also has grown into his role. The dynamic between them all shows and it is really what makes this ensemble cast so strong.

I also really like the fallout from Ziva being Mossad and her now wanting to become a citizen and join NCIS as a full agent. It is once again wonderful subplot driving the show for the fans, and yet underplayed so it is accessible for new viewers.
Donald Bellisario has done a lot of TV and I like a lot of it, but it seems to me it was all leading to this. While he is no longer with the show,Bellisario’s impact is still evident. He put together a strong cast and premise, and is the reason NCIS is so damn good.
Order season seven of NCIS.
