It has taken over two years, but things are falling into place for the film version of Laura Lippman’s EVERY SECRET THING. In July, it was announced that EST would see Oscar nominee Amy Berg (DELIVER US FROM EVIL, WEST OF MEMPHIS) make the transition from documentaries to scripted drama.
Now the film’s producers have announced that Elizabeth Banks (THE HUNGER GAMES, ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO) has joined the cast in an as yet unspecified role. Also mentioned was the fact that the project has acquired financing from a number of production companies and will start filming in February of 2013. Diane Lane has been attached to the project almost from the start.
Two little girls banished from a neighborhood birthday party take a wrong turn down an unfamiliar Baltimore street — and encounter an abandoned stroller with an infant inside. What happens next is shocking and terrible, and three families are irreparably destroyed.
Seven years later, Alice Manning and Ronnie Fuller, now eighteen, are released from “kid prison” to begin their lives over again. But the secrets swirling around the original crime continue to haunt the parents, the lawyers, the police — all the adults in Alice and Ronnie’s lives. And now another child has disappeared, under freakishly similar circumstances …
EST is a breathtaking novel that took Laura Lippman from being known as a talent mystery writer to being considered a world class novelist and one of the finest writers alive today.
