Last December, I wrote that Sony Television production company Timberman/Beverly Prods had signed a deal for the television rights to Elmore Leonard’s U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens.

Fire in the Hole is the basis for a series featuring U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. The show would look at Givens not only working cases, but dealing with issues in his personal life, including his aging father and ex-wife. Givens also appeared in the novels Pronto and Riding the Rap. Here is the hat that Leonard says is that of Raylan.
The show is to be directed by Michael Dinner. This has me excited. Dinner not only has experience with Mr. Leonard’s characters, having worked on the short-lived Karen Sisco, but also was a producer/director for the amazing Kidnapped. Dinner first real break came on The Wonder Years, where he directed and/or produced almost two dozen episodes.

Word has come today that FX has picked up the series, called LAWMAN, and is hoping to launch it in spring of 2010.
Also announced in the press release was that Timothy Olyphant will be playing Givens. This is very cool. TO did a fine job on season two of DAMAGES and the early buzz on his performace in the upcoming A Perfect Getaway is pretty strong.
In addition to Olyphant, LAWMAN will also star The series co-stars Nick Searcy (CSI) as Givens longtime friend and boss “Art Mullen,” and Jacob Pitts (21) and Erica Tazel (Life) as Deputy Marshals “Tim Gutterson” and “Rachel Dupree.” Guest stars include Walton Goggins (The Shield), Joelle Carter (CSI: Miami) and Natalie Zea (Dirty Sexy Money).
