Kate Macer (Blunt) is an FBI agent that has earned an assignment that initially seems like a plum. She’s recruited (somewhat mysteriously) by what appears to be a government official (Brolin). Before she can question the exact task or even its location, she is whisked away, much to her colleague’s (Kaluuya) distress.
The task force turns out to be working an operation within the escalating war on drugs. The players on both sides are shady, especially Alejandro (Del Toro) who appears to have a personal stake in the outcome.
This is a tense, exciting film, well acted and directed, that is sometimes hard to follow. As good an agent as she supposedly is, Blunt is often left standing with her mouth open. Why did they choose someone so inexperienced for the assignment? You’ll find out. Highly recommended.
