A few years back, reports were flying that Reese Whitherspoon would be staring in film version of Greg Rucka’s fantastic graphic novel Whiteout. As time passed, that project looked less and less likely.

Now new names and faces are being attached to the project.

Production Weekly is reporting that Dominic Sena (Kalifornia, Swordfish, Gone in Sixty Seconds) has signed on to direct. While I did enjoy Kalifornia, Swordfish and Gone In Sixty Seconds both bad enough that Mr. Sena should have personally refunded the ticket price to anyone that had the misfortune to see them.

The script is by Written by Erich and Jon Hoeber. They are not too well known right now, but recently wrote the script for the creepy sequel to Alice In Wonderland titled Alice. Alice stars Sarah Michelle Geller (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Grudge) as a grown up, and quite troubled, Alice that returns to Wonderland.

Now as to who will star: The current talk is that Kate Bosworth (Blue Crush, Superman Returns) is in negotiations to play the protagonist U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko.

Whiteout tells the story of Stetko’s mission to solve the first murder to occur on Antartica. The six months of sun are coming to an end and Carrie has little time to catch the killer before the sun sets and she is stuck there, with the killer, for the six months of darkness.
Post Note:
Production Weekly is reporting that Kate Beckinsdale (Serendipity, Underworld) is in talks for the role. Different Kate than I said. I am backtracking to the person that told me it was Bosworth. I was told her name a few weeks ago, before Sena was officially attached to it.
