Shoreline has announced the purchase of the international rights of the Elmore Leonard based tale.
A disgraced Detroit cop gets a shot at a comeback when a beautiful young actress needs help taking down a powerful movie producer. Extortion, treachery, and dynamite are just a few of the complications that stand between him and the woman he loves in Charles Matthau’s adaptation of the classic Elmore Leonard novel. Billy Burke, Christian Slater, Crispin Glover, and Michael Jai White star.

The film is set in 1974, a departure from Leonard’s 80s based tale. According to Charlie, it was Elmore himself that suggested the change. The initial draft had it set in modern day, with the characters Eco-terrorists instead of simply former radicals. By moving it back in time, Charlie could use the youth oriented cast he desired and also take advantage of an era of great change and turmoil.
Having followed this since the very beginning, I can say, without a doubt, that this is a true labor of love for Charlie. Much time and energy has gone into making this film a reality, with numerous setbacks and disappointments. I look forward to seeing the final product.
