Gregg Hurwitz Launches THE SURVIVOR at Diesel Bookstore

Last Tuesday (Aug 21st), Gregg Hurwitz celebrated the release of his twelfth novel, THE SURVIVOR, with a signing at Diesel Bookstore in Brentwood, CA.

One morning in Los Angeles, Nate Overbay—a divorced former solider suffering from PTSD and slowly dying from ALS — goes to an eleventh-floor bank, climbs out of the bathroom window onto the ledge, and gets ready to end it all. But as he’s steeling himself, a crew of robbers bursts into the bank and begins to viciously shoot employees and customers. With nothing to lose, Nate confronts the robbers, taking them out one-by-one. The last man standing leaves Nate with a cryptic warning.

Nate soon learns what that message meant. He is kidnapped by Pavlo, a savage Russian mobster and mastermind of the failed heist. Unable to break back into the bank to get the critical item inside, Pavlo gives Nate an ultimatum—break in and get what he needs or watch Pavlo slowly kill the one thing Nate loves most—his ex-wife Janie and his teenaged daughter Cielle—both lost when he came back from Iraq broken and confused. Now he’s got one last chance to protect the people he loves, even if it’s the last thing he is able to do.

THE SURVIVOR, like the rest of Gregg’s work, has folks gushing. Kirkus gave it a starred review,  Publisher’s Weekly predicts that  “fans won’t let this one gather any dust on the nightstand” and  Jenn’s Bookshelves feels that Gregg “connects with his readers through his incredibly well-developed characters, making it impossible not to love every thing this man has ever written.”

The event had a packed house of around 120 attendees. In addition to Gregg speaking and signing, there was a bit of music as Singer/Songwriter Nina Storey sang Murder Mystery, a song that was inspired by The Crime Writer, Gregg’s eighth novel.

In addition to publishing twelve novels in the last 13 years, Gregg has also written for comics, including BATMAN and WOLVERINE and was a writer/producer for ABC remake of V…just so you don’t think he is a slacker. Where Gregg finds the time and energy to do all of this stuff, I don’t know. But the quality of his work never suffers and he has maintained a high level of quality that most could only dream of. Oh yeah, he is also a fairly cool guy.

Gregg will be appearing at a number of stores and events in the next few months. If any are near you, take the time to stop by and let him know you dig his stuff. If things are slow, strike up a conversation on the works of Shakespeare. Gregg knows more than a little about the Bard.
