Having sampled earlier entries in this fine series, I don’t feel that guilty about my contribution, the 1989 mystery/romantic comedy Her Alibi.
Struggling P.I. novelist Phil Blackwood (Tom Selleck) sits in on a court session where Romanian refugee Nina (Paulina Porizkova) stands accused of murder. Perhaps thinking with his loins (I can’t blame him), Blackwood brashly alibis Nina, and she is released into his care.
Nina inspires Phil to write a comeback novel, but his falling for her is complicated by their language barrier and his uncertainty of her innocence. Hijinks ensue with William Daniels along as Phil’s agent and James Farentino as an ever-suspicious cop.
According to Wikipedia, “Although it was Porizkova’s best-known film appearance, her role as Nina in Her Alibi earned her a 1990 Golden Raspberry nomination for Worst Actress.”
My memory of Her Alibi is immutably gilded. I was fourteen-going on-fifteen in 1989, fantasizing equally about Paulina and being a P.I. novelist. And hey, I still do.
