The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that HBO has ordered 13 episodes of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.

The show is based on the bestselling novels by Alexander McCall Smith.

The deal is actually a split between HBO and the BBC. HBO will get U.S. and Canadian television and home video rights, while the BBC has rights to the U.K.

Oscar winner Anthony Minghella (Cold Mountain, The English Patient) shot a two-hour pilot based on a screenplay by Richard Curtis (Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’s Diary). The plan was for it to serve as a pilot, but no deals were actually made.
