This fall, HBO will start airing a new private detective series: BORED TO DEATH.
Penned by Jonathan Ames (“The Alcoholic”), this half-hour comedyseries stars
Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore, The Darjeeling Limited), Ted Danson (Cheers,
Damages) and Zach Galifianakis ( The Hangover). Schwartzman portrays a
struggling thirtysomething Brooklyn writer with a drinking problem who decidesto
emulate his heroes from the novels of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett
following a painful breakup with his girlfriend. Pretending to be an actual
private detective, he starts taking cases – solving some and making others
worse.
Ok, I am not sure how to react to this. It looks…interesting. Schwartzman is decent, but my perception of him is locked in with Wes Anderson. Maybe this will help him develop his own reputation (at least in my eyes).
Here is the teaser trailer:
This one sounds good and it's do-able. Usually I don't bother with half-hour series shows on TV, but I can see how a half hour would work with a premise like this one, a schlemiel pretneding to be a real private eye taking on cases, a new one every week. I'll have to look in on it.
Trailer has me very curious.
