On the 11th, Little Brown will release Ian Rankin’s THE BEAT GOES ON: The Complete Rebus Stories. Recently, Orion, Ian’s U.K. publisher, released this clip of the author reading Not Just Another Saturday Night, a story from the collection.

For the few unfortunate souls that are not familiar with Ian’s work, Rebus is John Rebus, a Scottish policeman whose drive, and tendency to speak his mind, often puts him at odds with his superiors, friends and family. Ian’s writings seem more influenced by the hard boiled genre than the typical U.K. police procedural. This collection features tales that span John’s long career and should appeal to anyone that claims to be a fan of the crime genre. In many ways, John reminds me of Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch. Or, because John debuted a few years before Harry, maybe Harry reminds me of John. Regardless, this collection should be on your want list. Ian’s first Rebus novel, KNOTS AND CROSSES, was published in 1987. In 2013, Ian published SAINTS OF THE SHADOW BIBLE, the 19th novel to feature Rebus.
