Jimmy Smits (L.A. Law, The West Wing, NYPD Blue) will be joining the cast of Dexter for the third season.
Smits will be playing Assisant district attorney Miguel Prado. Prado is described as “ambitious” and “charismatic” and comes from a well-connected Miami family.
The thing that really caught my eye was that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Dexter will “join forces with Prado, who has risen in the ranks because his aggressive stance against crime, in the pursuit of a murderer who affects both of their lives directly.”
Dexter is not a police officer, but simply a blood splatter expert. Does this mean that Dexter’s dark side is known to Smits?

Smit’s contract calls for him to appear in ten of the twelve episodes that will make up season three.
Seasons one and two of Dexter have been very strong, I can’t wait for season three
I read about this a day or two ago and was rather pleased as I was wondering where they'd be going after the gutwrenching events of the previous season. Smits is a pretty good actor, but more importantly everything I've read about the 3rd season of Dexter (hopefully) indicates that they're not going the same way as Jeff Lindsay's third book – Dexter in the Dark – with the introduction of supernatural sources as the reason behind Dexter's actions.
That book was rubbish!
