It looks like Joseph Gordon-Levitt may re-team with film-maker Rian Johnson (BRICK, THE BROTHERS BLOOM) for the upcoming LOOPER. According to Risky Business, JGL is in talking to star. Joseph previously working with Johnson on the damn great BRICK.

Looper is a time travel movie, set in a near future where time travel doesn’t exist but will be invented in a few decades. It’s pretty dark in tone, much different from Bloom, and involves a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate in the future. Their bosses send their targets hogtied and blindfolded back in time to the Loopers, and their job is to simply shoot them in the head and dispose of the body. So the target vanishes from the future and the Loopers dispose of a corpse that doesn’t technically exist, a very clean system. Complications set in from there.

But the fine folks at SlashFilm spoke with Johnson and have been able to offer up a little more:

The film will be set roughly thirty years in the future
The film will depict a dystopian society that has gone to “hell.”
A disruptive element will have traveled back in time from even further in the future
The time travel element is part of the setup, much like in The Terminator, but not an active ongoing part of the story
Looper will be “very dark, very violent. It’s the exact opposite of Bloom.”

BRICK was amazing and THE BROTHERS BLOOM was good, though not great, so I will be first in line to see LOOPER.
