I have to say that I did not see this coming.
Cable Network A&E will not be ordering a fourth season of LONGMIRE. The show, which is based on the characters of Craig Johnson, averaged 3.52 million viewers during it’s third season. Season 2 averaged 3.7 million weekly viewers, season one did 4.0 million. Those are same day numbers and do not include viewings in the days following the initial airing.
A&E released the following statement:
We would like to thank the phenomenal cast, crew and producers of Longmire, along with our partners at Warner Horizon, for their tireless work on three seasons of quality dramatic storytelling. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.
But there is still hope for the series, Deadline is reporting the production company, Warner Horizon, is shopping the series around. 3.5 million is still a nice number for the likes of A&E, second only to Duck Dynasty. I can’t help but think somebody will pick it up. If not, the cast and crew can be proud of the work they did, all three season were damn good and established a loyal fanbase.
I’ve been a fan since day one, I’ve DVR’d this season for watching back to back as soon as I have a day to myself, I only have 8 episodes so hope I caught this whole season. I HATE reality tv – everytime I like a show it gets axed – thanks for sharing with us
Noooooooo…. Best show on tv
A&E will continue to poison us with Duck Dynasty but can’t be bothered with a thoughtful, intelligent, well-made show that’s actually about something and doesn’t make the world a nastier, more petty place.
Too bad we’re losing one of the better series on television. I’ve looked forward to tuning into each episode, and if somebody doesn’t pick up the series I’ll sorely miss the show.
I really think there is a good chance it finds a new home. The ratings were well above that of the typical A&E show, one can’t help but think the numbers would go up quite a bit on a higher rated network.
To me, AMC and TNT seem the most logical options.
I’ve watched since the first episode and always looked forward to it. Shame that such a good show is being canceled. Sometimes I wonder if the powers that be really know what’s going on with their audience. Hope someone else picks it up and we can continue to enjoy a quality show.
A&E used to be one of my most watched channels but it is now all crap. To cancel Longmire in favor of hours and hours of Duck Dynasty and Storage Wars is insulting. C’mon AMC step forward and grab this excellent show!
