LUTHER: First still from upcoming special

Luther-firstlook-9.17-600x338While no premiere date has been announced, BBC America and BBC One have released a first still from upcoming Luther special. DCI John Luther (Elba) is up to his usual brand of justice. Pitted against his most chilling adversary yet, haunted by the ghosts of his past and hell-bent on retribution, he’s drawn into a terrifyingly complex case that pushes him closer to the edge than he’s ever been.

Written and created by Emmy®-nominated Neil Cross and directed by Sam Miller (No Good Deed, Fortitude) the Luther special will also star Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Inbetweeners Movie), Darren Boyd (Fortitude, Spy), John Heffernan (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Ripper Street) and Patrick Malahide (Indian Summers, The Paradise), with Michael Smiley and Dermot Crowley returning as Benny Silver and DSU Martin Schenk, respectively.

I am sure folks will notice that Ruth Wilson (aka Alice) is not mentioned here. Wilson is now a regular on Showtime’s THE AFFAIR, which may have prevented her from being a part of the upcoming two-episode special, there is also a chance that she has a minor part and that her involvement is being kept under wraps. To be honest, she is one of the highlights of the show and her relationship with Luther was one of the few positives of the last season.
