On Tuesday, Marcia Clark announced she had signed a deal, with TNT, to bring her character  Rachel Knight to the cable network.
Knight is a Los Angeles prosecutor and has appeared in two novels (GUILT BY ASSOCIATION and GUILT BY DEGREES). Clark will serve as executive producer for the project. Dee Johnson will be the show-runner and Nelson McCormick will direct the pilot.
Johnson started in television back in 1991 with the ABC series Equal Justice as an assistant and moved on to writing and producing a number of shows, including MELROSE PLACE, ER and THE GOOD WIFE. She has recently served as a consulting producer and writer for TNT’s RIZZOLI & ISLES and is listed as a writer for the telefilm HORNET’S NEST, which was featured in TNT’s Mystery Movie Night. That she already has a relationship with TNT and has experience with crime fiction-based television can only help the project’s chances of getting past the development stage and make it to the air.
Nelson McCormick has close to 20 years of experience in television and has directed episodes for over two dozen series, starting with NYPD BLUE and recently CRIMINAL MINDS and THE GOOD WIFE. Like Dee Johnson, he has history with TNT, having worked on THE CLOSER, SOUTHLAND, TRUST ME and RIZZOLI & ISLES.
Again, the fact that both Johnson and McCormick have already worked with TNT gives this a real leg up on other series in development. They known what appears to the powers that be at TNT and also known how things work over there. TNT also has a history of using crime fiction as source material (R&I as well as the Mystery Movie Night series).
In her previous life, Clark was a former L.A. deputy district attorney and is best known for her work as a prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson murder trial. But has since had both commercial and critical success with her writing, which includes a non-fiction book in addition to the two Knight novels.
