I had not seen this, but I have to give a kudos to Mr. Gerald So for bringing it to my attention.
This is from Harlan Coben’s newsletter:
Hart Hanson, the creator and executive producer of the TV series BONES, is writing a pilot for Twentieth Century Fox studios and Fox network to bring Myron and the gang to a TV near you. The working title — and this could very easily change — is PROMISES AND LIES. Okay so let’s hear your casting suggestions for Myron, Win and Esperanza. Keep in mind that this is a TV series, not a movie, so if you’re thinking, say, George Clooney or Vince Vaughn, you’re probably wasting your time. That’s all the details I know now. As I know more, you’ll know more. You can email your suggestions to casting@harlancoben.com. Yes, I will try to read them all, though please don’t expect replies. Thanks!
For those not familiar with the Bolitar series, Myron Bolitar is a former NBA first round draft choice. When his pro ball career ends before it really starts (his knee is blow out in a pre-season game), he goes to law school and becomes a sports agent.
Myron is assisted by Esperanza, a former pro-wrestler turned sports agent. She is sarcastic and does her best to keep Myron grounded.
Win is a rich financial advising “yuppy-psychopath.” Win looks like the kind of guy that got his ass kicked in school, but really would end up causing the school’s entire starting defensive line to miss out the season due to injuries. Think Christian Bale’s Patrick Batemen in American Psycho.
As it says above, Hanson is the creator of BONES, but he has also worked on Joan of Arcadia and Judging Amy. He also some work on Snoops with Gina Gershon, but I am sure that is something he would rather forget.
Hanson has done a solid job with Kathy Reich’s Dr. Temperance Brennan so I can see him doing this well.
One curious thing about this is that Harlan sold the film rights of Deal Breaker to Columbia. Is it possible we will see Myron both on the silver screen and on television?
I always envisoned James Spader as Winn
I have always thought Vince Vaughn for Myron and Owen Wilson would be the perfect Win.
Although James Spader is an amazing actor. He is far too old and bloated to play Win.
I totally agree with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. Need to do something about the nose, no way Win would have a nose like that.
why not find an entire cast of non famous to pl;ay the parts of myron, win, esperoza big cyndi, a perfect mother type would be judy sheindling.
Hope this movuie is a brilliant as the books
I think Vince would be great, gut I think Simon Baker or Aaron Eckhart would fit Win's character much better than Owen Wilson.
Mathew Fox for Myron, Roselyn Sanchez for Esperanza, Eric Dane for Win.
john cusack should be myron bolitar and neil patrick harris should be win…esperenza should be someone no one has heard of and myron's father should be judd hirsch.
I think somebody with the resemblance and talent of young Alan Arkin should be cast for Myron Bolitar
It's important to remember that Win is described as almost too handsome with a sleek, classy preppy look. He has ice blue eyes with silver flecks, porcelin skin, towhead blond locks and a rosy ruddy complexion-a perfect guise to hide lethal hands.
Definitely James Spader for Win…he'd be perfect.
Some friends and I love the Myron Bolitar books and we've been seriously discussing this for a little while now.
Myron – Ben Affleck
Win – Simon Baker or Ryan Gosling
Esperanza – Salma Hayek
Big Cyndi – NO idea. She'll be a ard one to cast
Bradley Cooper for Myron and Guy Pearce as Win.
I actually agree with these choices.
your idiots of you believe that vince vaughn and owen wilson would be right for these roles. if you think that you must not have read the book you probably couldnt make worse picks if you tried.
ok maybe im way off but i always thought that myron would look like brandon routh or josh hartnett. for win i have no idea because its not so simple i guess i agree with others james spader would be great and for esperanza roselyn sanchez
Simon Baker for Win. He would be absolutely perfect, and would capture the attractiveness and the pompousness, to be blunt.
Myron should be played by someone over 5'8"
BRENDAN FRAISER!!!!!!! Definitely…..
It't important to remember that Win isn't just handsome, but a total psycho. And you would need someone who could covey this. So that immediately rules Owen Wilson out. And as for Vince Vaughan as Myron what are you thinking? Two very very poor choices.
I would say someone along the lines of ryan reynolds, jake gyllenhaal, jude law. A good actor with wit, charm etc.
Win is a difficult one. Perhaps even christian bale for a film adaptation. Think along the lines of american psycho. Ben Foster?
I'm going to go a little younger for the casting here (Big Screen Version)and say:
Myron-Ryan Reynolds
Win-Ben Foster (think x-men angel meets his character in alpha dog for referrence)
Esperanza-Jessica Alba
I figure if you start with the first book their ages should work.
Vanessa Marcil would be perfect for Esperanza. Owen Wilson is too ugly and goofy to be Win. James Spader is not good looking enough.Simon is more along the lines, but you gotta think blonde, blue eyes, preppy and god awfully handsome. If Vince Vaughn had a little more charm he might be able to pull off Myron. The only character I can say for sure is Esperanza.
