Here is the most in-depth look we have gotten of PERCEPTION, TNT’s upcoming drama.
Some things we learn:
Dr. Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack) is not simply eccentric, he suffers from paranoid Schizophrenia. It looks like he fails to take the necessary meds and suffers because of it. Part of this will be manifested in hallucinations relating to the case (“Ghosts” talking to him and helping him think things through). He sees crimes as puzzles and challenges.
I initially thought that the relationship between Pierce and Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook) might be similar to that of the main two characters on THE MENTALIST, but the preview suggests a more serious relationship between the two of them. A closeness that is lacking from the previously mentioned show and and an overall more dramatic feel.
Arjay Smith plays Max Lewicki, the teaching assistant whose primary job is to keep Pierce in line. Max does not simply remind Pierce of things, he keeps him functioning and makes sure that Pierce’s illness does not get the better of him.
Missing from this video is Kelly Rowan’ Natalie Vincent. She is Dr. Pierce’s best friend and every bit his intellectual equal. According to Pierce’s recollection, they met in grad school and although they dated briefly they have remained close platonic friends ever since. However, Pierce wouldn’t mind if they renewed their romance. Their friendship is the closest thing he has ever had to a normal relationship, but as with so many things in Daniel’s life, things aren’t always what they seem.
PERCEPTION premieres, on TNT, on Monday, July 9, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT)
