TA few years ago, I mentioned that Dennis Lehane was adapting Animal Rescue, his short story from the Boston Noir anthology, for film.
Filming is underway in Brooklyn with Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini. The film is about a bartender that finds a pit bull and the problems that follow said dog.

I can think of plenty of women tjhat would be willing to trade places with this pooch.

This week, on set pictures started floating around online. Here are three of those pics.

Michaël R. Roskam is making his feature film directorial debut on the project, which is a fairly small budget affair.
Lehane’s work has made it to the screen three other times: Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River, Ben Affleck’s Gone Baby Gone and Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island, but this is the first time that Dennis has participated.
TWhile no date is set, Animal Rescue is expected to be released, by Fox Searchlight,  in early 2014. Lehane’s previous Hollywood work includes a writing stint on The Wire and his current job as a creative consultant for Boardwalk Empire.
