Remastered, restored JAWS coming to Blu-ray.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that a remastered and restored JAWS will be released, in a Blu-ray/DVD/UltraViolet combo pack, on August 14th.

Directed by Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, Jaws set the standard for edge-of-your seat suspense quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon and forever changing the movie industry. When the seaside community of Amity finds itself under attack by a dangerous great white shark, the town’s chief of police (Roy Scheider), a young marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a grizzled shark hunter (Robert Shaw) embark on a desperate quest to destroy the beast before it strikes again. Featuring an unforgettable score that evokes pure terror, Jaws remains one of the most influential and gripping adventures in motion picture history.

According to the press release, the film is undergoing a frame by frame restoration in which colors are being restored, dirt and scratches removed and damaged frames repaired. The sound is also being remixed in DTS-HD Master 7.1. USHE has been consulting with Steven Spielberg during the process.

As a big fan of JAWS, this is welcome news. Uni always does a fantastic job of restoration without leaving a ton of DNR. Here is a video looking at the process:
