Return with us now to the heyday of original syndicated programming. Renegade is another of Stephen J. Cannell’s series originally released on DVD by Anchor Bay Entertainment. Due to poor sales, Anchor Bay opted not to release the final two seasons, and as of 2010, their first three season sets have been discontinued.
As in my 21 Jump Street review, I have to point out that Anchor Bay’s Renegade Season One set included 98 minutes of creator and cast interviews, and this Mill Creek set does not include any special features. The packaging—four discs (22 episodes) in a traditional multi-hub DVD case—is superior to that of Mill Creek’s Jump Street Season One set.
I recommend Renegade to nostalgic fans or those who may have missed it in first-run. Say what you will about Lamas, he looked the part of a motorcycle-riding, rifle-toting, roundhouse-kicking bounty hunter. The recurring role of the crooked cop who framed Raines was played by Stephen J. Cannell himself.
