In the last day or so, news has come out that Clint Eastwood will be returning to the silver screen.
Variety reported that Warner Bros had announced that Eastwood would both direct and star in Gran Torino. They also announced it would be released in December of 08.
No other details came out. Variety even commented that the studio was being very tight lipped about it.
BUT:
Ain’t It Cool has posted a note from a user that stated that Gran Torino was the return of Dirty Harry.
According to Kurt (author of the note) he put his 1974 ford grand torino classic for sale. After doing so, he was contacted by somebody from Village Roadshow Pictures. While the studio man opted not to purchase the car, he did say he was looking because one was needed for the upcoming Eastwood flick.
“He said it was a thriller about a killer that drives a certain torino. His 1972 Ford Gran Torino is the only thing the police have on him. A retired police lieutenant, one Harry Callahan, makes it his mission to track down the culprit when two young police officers, one Callahan’s grandson, are shot and killed by the guy.”

While it is true that the last Dirty Harry film, The Dead Pool, was so-so, Clint has been on a roll of late with films like Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby and his WW II films. Maybe we will see Dirty Harry get a truly great send-off?
There seems to be conflicting stories on this subject.
FilmJerk.com is saying this is NOT a Dirty Harry film, while MovieWeb.com is saying they have it from an employee of Eastwood’s production company that it is a DH film.
It would be cool.
