This television show from 1980 suffers from the same thing that many older shows suffer from. They are really products of their time. It’s not a bad show, in fact its a fun show to watch, though that has more to do with Jeff Goldblum and Ben Vereen than the awesomeness of the episodes.

Goldblum plays Lionel Whitney, known as Brown Shoe. He is obsessed with a fictional detective named Mark Savage and dreams of being a hard-boiled PI. Benn vereen is EL “Tenspeed” Turner, an extraordinary con man. After meeting Whitney opens a detective agency leaving behind his job as a stock broker. Brownshoe knows what to do because of his detective novels, and tenspeed knows what to really do thanks to his street smarts.

Similar to a lot of show from the period this show is more fantasy based in that a lot of the situations they find themselves in would never happen. No one could work a con as fast or as believably as Tenspeed seems to keep pulling off. The music and settings allso give away the time period.

But Goldblum is fun to watch as is Vereen. A pairing I never would have considered.

The show is reasonably priced and at this price it’s worth checking out if you are a fan of either actor.
