I have some very cool news to share: Award-winning writer and all-around good guy Sean Doolittle has sold the films rights to THE CLEANUP.

Diretor Alex Turner has purchased the film option of the 2006 award-winning novel. In addition to it’s numorous awards and accolates, it was named Favorite Book of 2006″ by the readers of CrimeSpree. We Crimespree folk know quality when we see (or read) it!

Matthew Worth is a mess. Somewhere between a good cop and a bad screwup, he botched a marriage and a career. His fellow officers think he’s a joke. His commanders are tired of cutting him breaks. Even his wife has left him for a flashy homicide detective. Busted to night patrol at a robbery-prone Omaha supermarket, Worth is doing time, wearing his uniform and asking shoppers if they want paper or plastic. If that isn’t enough, he suspects he might be falling for Gwen, the shy checkout girl who may be an even bigger mess than he is. It couldn’t get any worse. Until it does.

When Gwen comes to him one night scared and desperate for help, Worth discovers just how far he’s willing to go to protect and serve. The next thing he knows, he’s driving a stolen car with a corpse in the trunk, a pistol in the glove box, and no way to turn back. Everything he doesn’t know could get them killed. And things haven’t even begun to get messy yet….

Turner wrote and directed a couple of shorts (CHUCK, DISSPOSAL) as well as having done a couple of horror/thrillers (RED SAND, DEAD BIRDS). RED SAND came out earlier this year and took a beating from the critics. But I have to note that I have had two different people tell me the final cut was not his, but rather the studio’s.

I asked Sean for his feelings on the deal:
“I think The Cleanup is in terrific hands with Alex. His writing is offbeat in ways I admire, and I love his visual style. I can’t wait to see what he does with the material.”

The CLEANUP is a damn good book, here is hoping the stars align and this makes it to the silver screen.
