Jeremy asked for my reactions to several crime show season finales as well as my thoughts on where the shows might go from here.

To be honest, I’ve had my doubts about spinning off NCIS from the beginning, and while NCIS: Los Angeles was one of this season’s ratings hits, that may have been largely due to its NCIS lead-in. The show tried to duplicate NCIS’s humor while amping up the action and technology. While I did enjoy some of the character moments, the show might have been well served to steal one of the original NCIS characters and build around him/her.

On the bright side, the show managed to kill off its most misused character, Agent Dominic Vaile (Adam Jamal Craig), and by the end of the season there was more continuity from episode to episode.

For the finale itself, aired May 25, the show delved into G. Callen (Chris O’Donnell)’s mysterious past. This has always struck me as something added to make Callen seem cooler. I, for one, am more interested in what a character does in the present than in his past.  That aside, I knew Season 1 was too early to reveal much of anything.

I’m not sure I would watch this show if the original NCIS weren’t on as well, but I’m willing to stick with it as long as I’ve got nothing better to watch Tuesdays at 9PM.
