Nobody is willing to acknowledge it, but it appears that author John Burdett and Sony Pictures are working on a deal to bring Burdett’s Thai police officer Sonchai Jitpleecheep to the big screen. Burdett has written six novels overall, with four featuring Jitpleecheep.
Jitpleecheep is a hard-working Buddhist cop that strives to do his job while not getting caught up in the corruption and poltics that surround him. He is half Thai, half American (as a result of an encounter between a U.S. officer and a prostitute)and that, along with his unwillingness to accept bribes, makes him a bit of an outsider within the police department. His beat is crimes involving the ex industry. The books are fairly graphic and gritty, I hope any film adaptation keeps the edge and grit.
Kudos to Fusible for catching the fact that Sony pcitures has registered over two dozen domain with names conencted to Mr. Burdett’s novels. Neither Mr. Burdett nor Sony Pictures are willing to comment at this time, but
Milllennium films previously had an option for BANGKOK 8, the first in the series, and even had James McTeigue (V FOR VENDETTA) attached. But financing never materialized. It is worth noting that none of the domains that Fusible listed  involve BANGKOK 8.
