Mrs. Crimespree on Fables and Grim Jack

I have had a lot of pleasure in my Comic reading since CCC (Comic con Chicago). We came home and I began reading Fables again. Really reading it. Between the novel PETER & MAX and the new arc Fables is once again as it should always be.. We’re talking the witches story and I’m waiting on tender hooks. WITCHES, come back to what Fables once was… and enjoy…. GRIM JACK: THE MINX CAT, I have to admit I’d never read this creation before BUT I did know what a legend John Ostrander was and when we got back from the con, after having met him, I asked Mr. Crimespree if there was something new in the prolific and fabulous history. Turns out there...

Friday thoughts of Presidents Mar07

Friday thoughts of Presidents

I believe myself to be a fairly level headed person. I spend hours typing book reviews, Crimespree columns, Bouchercon e-mails, even occasional fiction. I love it all. That is the kind of column all of you expect and deserve on this blog. So if you’re not interested in my opinion of the current Democratic process being waged here in the good old U.S.A. break away now. Writing, you see, has become a way for me to express myself and I cannot hold my keyboard in check any longer. Once upon a time, there was a golden couple from Arkansas. The husband was smart, handsome, a very good glad hander and a beatific orator. The wife was savvy,...

A GRAVE Situation Jun09

A GRAVE Situation

I got a phone call this week from my favorite mystery critic. That would be my Dad. “You were right, it’s a great book!” There really were exclamation marks in his voice. More than one, but I’m showing a little restraint here. After all, I had to ask, “Which book?” My Dad is a professor by day and he’d saved a particular favorite of mine for after the grade sheets were turned in and before Summer truly began. A summer kickoff if you will. And then today I clicked on Salon, and there was my precious book, a summer pick. THE GRAVE TATTOO by Val McDermid is an ambitious and brilliantly executed...

Looking at “THE LIST” May26

Looking at “THE LIST”

Books Sales are something that all uber fans of our genre are aware of. We want the folks we like to read to sell enough books to be asked to write another one. It’s that simple. When you’re a rabid fan and know a fav has a book out you’re going to look at the New York Times Best Seller list. There are more accurate lists out there and there are lists that better trace the momentum of a novel. But the be all, tell all list is and will probably always be the NYTBSL. It’s an acronym. This week I was very interested in the list. And I was informed. Not by publicists or insiders but by a road trip. I knew that Crimespree...

Tom Sizemore arrested (again) for possession of Me...

ABC News dot Com reports that Tom Sizemore was arrested for possession of Methamphetamine this morning(05/08/2007) outside the Four Points Sheraton hotel in Bakersfield, California. Officers were called to the hotel at around 7:30 a.m. by a report that a man had challenged an employee to fight while trying to check in, Terry said. The man, believed to be an associate of Sizemore’s, had gotten into a dispute over whether he had a reservation, the detective said. Jason Salcido, 33, of Whittier, was found to be on parole and officers found he was carrying a “narcotic smoking pipe,” Terry said. Officers learned that he and...
