BLIND TO SIN BY DAVE WHITE

Polis Books 2017 Writing an ongoing series can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, fans can be comforted by reading the continuing adventures of their favorite rough-and-tumble PI’s, or watching justice get served on the latest Dick Wolf television show. But chances are, you’re not going to see much in the way of character growth in these long running series. Many of the protagonists are frozen in time: young and virile enough to have a million more adventures, and self-contained enough for any airport traveler to pick up any of their novels regardless of the order that they came out in. With BLIND TO SIN, author Dave White says, “Nope....

Alex Segura Crimespree Interview By Dave White

I hate hot weather. Give me winter and snow any day over the humid, sweaty nonsense that comes in the months of June-August. But, when it comes to crime fiction, the mean streets of Miami—away from the glitz and glamor of the beach—catch my eye. Why? Because Alex Segura and his Private Investigator protagonist, Pete Fernandez, mine those streets for the all the danger, action, and crime you expect in hardboiled fiction. Alex and I sat down at our respective computers and talked about writing process, Pete, and his upcoming novel DANGEROUS ENDS, coming in April from Polis Books. Dave White: At the end of DOWN THE DARKEST STREET, Pete has...

AN EMPTY HELL By Dave White Reviewed

February 9, 2016 Polis Books   I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next Jackson Donne thriller, Donne finally throws his hands in the air and yells, “Haven’t I been through enough already?” After the devastating events of NOT EVEN PAST, the New Jersey PI is hiding out in the woods of Vermont. He’s attempting to find peace and solace in the relative isolation. He earns enough for a room and a case of Heady Topper beer by doing cash only maintenance work at the Vermont Scenic Motel. His boss, Mario, is a decent enough guy, and Jackson Donne is starting to feel comfortable living under the bogus identity of Joe Tennant. Back in New Jersey,...

THE BLOCKBUSTER PLOT

Some of my favorite movies don’t make much sense. You know the ones: The blockbusters with the crazy, intricate plots where the villain wants to get caught, because that’s the easiest way to infiltrate the hero’s headquarters. Or the kind of movie with the big, out of nowhere twist at the end of it. The villain is always two steps ahead, and there’s no way the hero can overcome. A storyline, which—when you first watch it—drags the viewer along on momentum and pacing alone. But, of course, the moment you think too hard about the plot it crumbles under its own weight or illogical decisions. Don’t judge me. I love those movies. They’re fun....

NOT EVEN PAST By Dave White

Polis Books 2015 Life is filled with “what ifs.” What if… you had turned left instead of right on the way to work this morning? Would you still have gotten into that fender bender? What if you ordered a burger instead of fish for dinner? Would you have avoided that stomach bug that’s been going around? What if What if… What if your fiancé hadn’t died in that car accident after all? What if she not only lived, but has been on the run for the last six years, and you didn’t know it? Yeah, that queasy feeling in the pit of your stomach is exactly what ex-cop, ex-private eye Jackson Donne is feeling as he hits “play” on an email link that he...
