DVD Review: DOLLHOUSE – The Complete Season ...

Fox Home Entertaiment Release date: October 12, 2010 MSRP: $49.98 Extras: Audio Commentary on ‘Vows’ by Joss Whedon Audio Commentary on ‘Belonging’ by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen Outtakes Deleted Scenes Defining Moments Looking Back Stars: Eliza Dushku, Harry Lennix, Fran Kranz, Tahmoh Penikett, Enver Gjokaj, Dichen Lachman Dollhouse season two is, for my money, the best of it. The episodes were by and large strong and it had Alan Tudyk as Alpha the bad/good genius serial killer doll acting all over the place and obviously relishing it. Worth the price of admission alone. The starcrossed Joss Whedon outing...

Lee on DOLLHOUSE

Dollhouse (Fox) is coming to an end and while I have come to like the series I can understand why. It took to long to establish and it’s hard to care about a character that is so vapid (by design)as to be non-exist ant. I’ve said before and will say it again, if I don’t care about the people I don’t care what happens to them. In time I came to care. About halfway through season one it started to smoke and now it’s breathing fire, but too many viewers have voted with their clickers. Too bad. It is an ambitious premise to start with. An evil corporation is using mind control on a few that wants to use it...

Grey GardensI’m a big fan of the Grey Gardens documentary, and I enjoyed the HBO remake starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. Drew Barrymore’s acting was a bit strained at times, but Jessica Lange was phenomenal as Big Edie. I liked that the HBO film visited issues and fleshed out scenes simply alluded to in the documentary. Both left me feeling Little Edie and Big Edie twisted history into their own versions of what they personally needed to believe in order to get by.Bored to DeathReally loving Bored to Death. The half-hour comedy is about a blocked writer (Jason Schwarztman) who puts an ad on Craigslist and begins moonlighting as a...

DVD/Blu-ray Review: DOLLSHOUSE – Season one

Fox Home EntertainmentRelease date: July 28, 2009MSRP: $48.99 (DVD), $69.99 (blu-ray)Stars: Eliza Dushku, Harry J. Lennix, Tahmoh Penikett, Fran Kranz, Enver GjokajDid Dollhouse start slowly?Oh yeah!It was only my faith in Joss Whedon and my Editor’s even greater faith that kept me keeping on. Good. It has raised the ante by several times and it has turned into a real thriller/who dun it, who’s the inside man (or woman, my bet) What is Alpha ( Alan Tudyk of Firefly, playing Wash on steroids and then just the steroids. Nice piece of work I didn’t see coming) and just what exactly the hell is going on here? For those of you...
