Author Work Spaces: Julie Hyzy

The first two are wall maps I use far more often than I ever expected. My husband made the yellow shelves beneath the world map for me for our first Christmas when we were dating. The third one is my (always) messy desk, decorated with awards and with lovely handmade gifts from my kids. The last one is a watercolor I painted for my dad years ago of our family dog, Buttons. She was great and totally my dad’s dog. When my father passed away, my brother gave the painting back to me. And now Buttons watches over my shoulder when I’m writing. Julie Hyzy Julie Hyzy’s very first job had her flipping burgers and chopping onions at...

GRACE CRIES UNCLE BY JULIE HYZY

GRACE CRIED UNCLE Julie Hyzy August 7, 2015 Berkley Prime Crime Marshfield Manor’s curator-slash-manager, Grace Wheaton, and her boss, Bennett Marshfield, have finally decided to undergo DNA testing to confirm that they’re related. Waiting for the results has Grace in knots, so the last thing she needs is more stress. Stress she gets, though, in the form of a high-profile antiques convention, a nosy FBI agent, a dead body, and a visit from her estranged sister Liza. Julie Hyzy: 5 Books/Albums/Movies That Changed My ...

Okay, here goes. Life-changing favorites, in no particular order: 1) Book – THE OCTOBER COUNTRY by Ray Bradbury. This collection of short stories, handed to me by my eighth grade teacher, made my final excruciating months of grammar school bearable. I discovered the joy in the short story format and I fell in love with Ray Bradbury. I wrote him a fan letter once, because I thought he deserved to know how much his words influenced (and continue to influence) me and how much his stories inspired me to write. To my everlasting surprise, he called me. At home. To thank me for my letter and to tell me it made him cry. If he hadn’t...
